The
CARE Health Fair gets better each year!
Thanks to the
efforts of a group of good-natured and tireless volunteers, the
2005 CARE Health Fair was a rousing success.
Livingston-area
residents and Escapees Club members combined to make this the most
successful Health Fair to date. More than two hundred people enrolled
for the blood tests, which included a complete metabolic profile,
coronary risk (lipid) profile, thyroid, and PSA. On-site at Rainbows
End, there was screening for stroke, abdominal aneurysm, circulatory
problems, osteoporosis, plus EKG. The local hospital partnered with
CARE, setting aside two days for health fair participants to schedule
mammograms.
Escapees member
and pharmacist, Bill Fisher, made himself available Monday and Tuesday
to answer questions and offer advice about over-the-counter and
prescription medications. Several healthcare providers gave seminars
on their specialty practices. Dr. Medda Rauhut offered a "for
women only" seminar one morning and then participated in two
afternoon sessions answering Escapees specific questions about
the results of their blood and EKG tests.
Thursdays
Music & Memories - a dessert potluck, bluegrass music, and personal
memorial anecdotes was a well attended and moving evening.
The celebration dinner on Friday evening was delicious and the entertainment
by the Livingston orchestra was outstanding. There was a spirited
competition among the celebrity servers to outdo each
other raising tip money.
The CARE Health
Fair version of a hitch-up breakfast was pancakes and sausage on
Saturday morning at the CARE Center. The breakfast servers werent
celebrities, but everyone enjoyed themselves.
The 2005 CARE
Health Fair raised $8,629.95, and we thank you all for your participation.
