History of Verde Valley Escapee Chapter 32

Chapter 32 started with an idea, a great idea, to have an Escapee chapter in the Verde Valley area. Many people visited the beautiful Verde Valley in March of 1991. Some just wanted to get together with other SKPs while others dreamed of a co-op in the area.

The desires and dreams of more than 50 people resulted in Chapter 32 becoming an official reality on March 20, l991. officers were elected, By-laws adopted, and a name chosen.

In April, l991, weekly luncheon meetings were started at Sasabees Restaurant in Cottonwood. Each week, new members joined the Chapter. By June, l991, there were more than 125 members.

Members discussed plans for a Co-op, a Retreat, or a new type of park - a combined Co-op/Retreat. The new concept, a Co-op/Retreat, was the most popular plan. Members were surveyed as to their desire for a small lot or a large lot. The search for a suitable site in Verde Valley continued.

By July, l991 the membership was close to 300. The idea for a logo was discussed.

The first rally was scheduled with Chapter 21 (Benson) on December 4,5, and 6 at Fountain Hills. There were 35 rigs in attendance.

By the time the Chapter was one year old, there were almost 304 memberships.

The search for a suitable location for a co-op continued across Verde Valley. Because of many unmanageable situations, the direction changed, and North Ranch became the best option. On September 21, l992, the existing park, North Ranch, was turned over to Rainbow Parks. After a survey was sent out to rename the park, it was decided to maintain the name North Ranch. The next five years were very arduous and frustrating until we were able to move onto our lots in April of 1997. It would be l999 before we received our deeds to the 436 lots. While the wait was long, it was worth it.

Chapter 32 split in l999. Chapter 32 covers Phoenix north, east and west. Phoenix south, east and west is now Chapter 45.

Chapter 32 holds two rallies a year, one in the fall and one in the spring.
