Chapter 42 FallRally at T. O Fuller State Park in Memphis, TN, Sept. 29 - Oct. 3, 2009
The Fall Rally was held at T.O. Fuller State Park in Memphis, TN. Early arrivals began on Sunday and continued through Tuesday. We had a visiting Escapees couple from Florida, who were the first arrivals, Lou and Dot Costopoulos. We were happy that they came to our rally. Other members attending were, Paul and Joanne Reed, Donald Fredericks, Ralph and Virginia Wiggers, Pete and Judy Berger, Joe and Beverly Hardin, Mildred and Jerry Rayl, Al and Mary Ingram, and John and Polly Hesse. Farrell and Barbi Evans joined the group for some of the activities. Tuesday evening we had BBQ supper at the park. Wednesday we went to Mud Island park and toured the scale model of the Mississippi River; most walked the length of the river from start to the Gulf. We visited the River Museum and learned the history of the river. Some returned to the campground, while others took a ride on the downtown trolley, ate at a local restaurant, and saw other attractions in Memphis. Thursday after coffee and donuts, we toured the National Civil Rights Museum, the site of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. In the afternoon, a short drive took us to the Tunica River Park and the on to a casino for a dinner at the buffet. Friday we toured the National Ornamental Metal Museum and saw many examples of metal work on display. We also observed a metal-working demonstration in the Foundry shop. We returned to the park for a lunch provided by the Friends of T.O. Fuller State Park. Many thanks to the Park Staff and the Friends group for their hospitality and generosity. The afternoon was free time until the business meeting. Plans for the upcoming spring rally and multi-chapter rally were discussed. A rolling rally to the 2010 Escapade in Goshen from the 2010 fall rally was also suggested. Dinner that night was at the Piccadilly Cafeteria. Saturday was Hitch Up and Head out day for the rally attendees as they headed home or continued their journeys. The weather was excellent for the rally, so there were no complaints in that area. The Spring Rally is only a few months away, so it is time to start making plans to attend. More information will follow in the newsletter and web site about these upcoming rallies.
