Escapees RV Club Chapter 51, Hoosier Neighbor

Hoosier Neighbor? Indiana is the Crossroads of America, Indy 500, Covered Bridge, RV Capital of America!

(This page maintained by Stan Bober. Last modified: 9/1/2008 5:43:05 AMCentral time.)

Indiana Chapter 51 was established on July 22, 2005 with a Rally at Pla-Mor Campground located in Bremen, IN. We not only had Indiana residents but some from surrounding states as well. Anyone who is interested in attending or belonging to our chapter is welcome. We will be meeting at least 2 to 3 times a year and the dues are $8.00 yearly payable on or before August 1 of each year.

Starting April 1st, I'll be featuring all members I have a picture of, alphabetically along with a few pix of our most recent rallies. VIEW THESE PHOTO SHOTS BY CLICKING AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE ON THE "CHAPTER PHOTO GALLERY" Link.
I do not have everyone's picture and if you're missed, e-mail me.

David McCreary, our Chapter Newsletter Editor, would love to feature special dates like anniversaries or birthdays. He needs this info to be able to print it in our Newsletter. Click here Dave to submit any "sunshine" information you'd like to see in our Newsletter or for that matter, any kind of info you would like to submit to Dave and our Newsletter.

What's fun, growing, and really "HOT" right now?

President’s View

We have had a great summer so far and have been able to travel. I’ve never been to South Dakota, Wyoming, or Colorado. Wow…what beautiful states with our National Parks and Monuments. We also encountered different type of road blocks during our travels. We had to stop and wait until a herd of buffalo crossed the road while we were driving in Yellowstone National Park. Later when we were on our way to Casper, Wyoming, we saw a lot of dust ahead and then a truck that had a sign that said ”Caution, Cattle Drive”. It was a surprise delay, but we enjoyed it. Yes, Wyoming has real cowboys and this was something we would not see in Indiana. We are so glad we were able to make this beautiful trip. We are presently in Colorado but we will be heading back to Indiana shortly. We don’t have any specific plans and we be traveling at a very leisure pace.
We are looking forward to the rally in Bloomington. I know our hosts are already hard at work and we will have fun doing what Escapees do. We will also have a meeting so we can discuss future rallies and we will have an election for Vice President and Treasurer.
So plan on coming and don’t forget you have to call the campground direct to make reservation for your site.

Safe Travels and SKP Hugs

Betty

There is something godlike everyone of us possesses in our arms, hands, fingers. This is the power to make someone feel cherished....the power to give (and receive at the very same time!) kindness, warmth, tenderness, support, healing, security - and most of all belonging. All add up to the profoundness of love....all human qualities that humans can give - and give with a simple touch - a simple hug. 2008

Webmaster Report
I promised to tell the true story of Chapter 51’s near death experience. We had a better then great beginning in July of 05 and built on this beginning with another great 05 Fall Rally in Rockville, IN (covered bridge capital). This was a nice spring-board rally for many of us continuing on to the National Fall Escapade rally in Duquoin, IL.    Chapter 51 had a banner year for 2005.

Our next scheduled rally was the Spring Rally in Boonville, IN. May of 2006. I can’t remember the count that showed up, but somewhere near 20 rigs. Who was absent: Our President had to resign due to serious health and personal reasons and couldn't make the rally.
Our Vice Pres. resigned due to moving to Kansas.
Our Treasurer couldn’t make the rally due to serious family health problems..
Our Secretary couldn’t make the rally.
Our Webmaster resigned about that time and didn’t make the rally.
Our Newsletter Editor unexpectedly passed away!
AND last but not least, the Rally Host didn’t make the rally due to serious and unexpected health problems.

Carole & Gary Humphrey was in the unenviable position of being this rally’s co-host but wasn’t involved in the planning of this rally so they were as blank about the rally, arrangements, and agenda, as the rest of us. The very first thing we needed to hold a rally in early May and in our neck-of-the-woods, is a building. Well, the rally host paid a $100 deposit (non-refundable) down on a building not knowing the county park wanted $100 per day for the building. Heck, We didn’t have that much money in our newly formed treasury!

With help from VCR’s Ron & Jerri Lea Hopf, Lon & Carolyn VanOstran, Bernie & Carol Patton, plus cell phone instructions from National Chapter Director Susie Orr, we held emergency elections. Betty Bober elected Pres, Phyllis Stetzel VP, Dave McCreary volunteered to be Newsletter Editor, and I was appointed Webmaster.

With God gracing our rally with perfect weather for all “outside” activities and the Humphrey’s taking the reins with firm but terribly nervous hands, we had a tremendously successful and fun rally, in spite of our near death experience.

What could have – should have been a death blow to our newly formed and still fragile chapter, turned out to be a blessing. Since then we’ve grown and prospered by leaps and bounds! We can’t imagine a better chapter and a more wonderful bunch of people that’s presently 51’ members. Hoosier Neighbor? You bet we are!

Stan
