From Your President:
Enthusiasm among members of Chapter 7 was high as we ended our 2007-08 winter season. From our Fall Rally at Quartzsite to the Picnic at West Wetlands, capping the season, we gathered as friends and functioned as family. Generosity of time and talents was the theme that ensured our success.
At the Fall Rally, 56 members and guests lined up for three days of fun at MM 99, Quartzsite. We enjoyed great friends, great food and great activities. Brenda Neil literally auctioned the "shirt off her back" for CARE, and auction proceeds totaled $1,418. We accepted our eleventh patch, acknowledging $11,000 given to CARE, from National Chapter Directors, Susie and Denny Orr.
In mid-December, Chapter 7 members and guests cruised the Colorado River on the Colorado King stern wheeler. Cool temperatures did not hinder our fun as we cruised up and down river while we enjoyed the captain's presentation and a delicious lunch. Also in December, we got together for a Holiday Luncheon. Fifty members and guests celebrated the season with fellowship and good food at Mr. Lu's Chinese Super Buffet in Yuma.
In January, we celebrated Chapter 7's 23rd anniversary with a Birthday Party, complete with cake and ice cream, at Mr. Lu's Chinese Restaurant. Forty-two memers and guests took part in a fun trivia contest where all the questions related to Chapter 7's history.
March found many of us carpooling from KOFA to join other area SKPS for luncheon at Yuma Proving Grounds, attended by 75 SKPs. A gorgeous sunny day made watching the US Army's Golden Knights crack parachute team in their practice session very enjoyable.
Our March event, themed as a CARE Rally, attracted 65 SKPs and 31 rigs, including several visitors from San Diego's Chapter 25 and Chapter Directors, Denny and Susie Orr. With proceeds from all activities and meals dedicated to CARE, Chapter 7 raised $5,001 for CARE and added five more patches to our banner. The generosity of Dave and Brenda Neil and the able assistance of their co-hosts, Tom and Pat Dunkel, made the Rally a huge success.
Our final event of the season, an April Picnic at West Wetlands, was also well attended. Sixty-three guests enjoyed hamburgers and hot dogs provided by the Chapter and a variety of dishes brought by attendees.
With a sense of pride, we have enjoyed a renewal of interest and spirit in Chapter 7 and greatly increased participation in our events this season. Contact us when you are in the area. We will welcome you with a great big SKP hug.
