New York, New York, if you have never been there, you will be in for a special treat. Everyone who went on this HOP in May 2007 had a delightful time exploring the great wonders of NYC. See sights that you have only seen on TV or in the magazine. New York is easily one of the world's greatest cities and is a major center for media, culture, food, fashion, art, research, finance, and trade. It also has one of the largest and most famous skylines on earth. Gone is the dirty NYC we remember from the past, and in its place is a beautiful, clean and safe NYC that is a pleasure to tour and walk through.

Tours

You’ll be touring different parts of NYC with the same guide, which means no repeat sights, no having to go over what you’ve already seen with a new guide each day!!  This guide is the same guide we had in 2007; he is a native New Yorker, and he’s terrific, so you’ll get a great tour with him.  Your tours will definitely include Top of the Rock, the Ellis Island ferry to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Admission tickets are included.  Other sights you may see (all sights are dependent on traffic, parades, demonstrations, and other events that are happening on the day of our tours): Times Square, Theatre District, Garment District, Madison Square Garden, SoHo, Greenwich Village, Little Italy, Chinatown, The Battery, Ground Zero site, Financial District, Wall Street, United Nations area, Radio City Music Hall, and the Rockefeller Center.

Other sights are Central Park, Lincoln Center area, Upper Westside, Grant’s Tomb, Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Columbia University, Harlem, Schomberg Center, Strivers Row, Sylvan Terrace, Hamilton Grange, Apollo Theater, Fifth Ave, “Museum Mile.”

You’ll also be touring the West Point Academy, where you’ll see the Main Cadet Chapel, Trophy Point, Battle Monument, the Monument to the Great Chain, the Parade Field, the Old Cadet Chapel, and the West Point Cemetery.   Then you’ll enjoy lunch at the Park Restaurant, after which you can visit the West Point Museum and/or return to the Visitor Center, where there are several interesting displays of a cadet’s life and items you can purchase.  From there you’ll board the MV Commander for a two-hour narrated cruise through the Hudson Highlands.

*Some changes may be made to the schedule due to traffic or events in the city.  You may see more sights than listed and may get off the bus quite often to walk to these sights.  Some sights may not be seen.  These decisions will be made at the guide’s discretion.  Lion King may be replaced if the show is cancelled.

Campground

You will be camping at the American Family Campground, with 30-amp sites.   If you want to come in before or stay after the HOP, you can call the campground at 800-226-7232 or 845-754-8388. Make sure to tell them you are with the Escapees HOP event.  There are so many wonderful places to see in the area, you may want to stay for a while and enjoy some of them.

Dog Walking

The RV park has a dog walker on site that will walk your dog for a fee. If you wish to use this service, please call the campground ahead of time at the above number.
