Outdoor Adventure HOP
South Fork, Colorado
July 11-18, 2010
Hosts: Barry and Judy Curtis #2336
Assistant host: Jane Young 47612
Let’s get those four-wheelers ready for another great Outdoor Adventure in 2010. Alpine Trails RV Park in South Fork, Co., is a great area for off-road enjoyment. We are having a 7-day HOP so you will be able to enjoy all that the area has to offer. Jul’s Catering will be putting the meals together for us, the same caterer we’ve had in Creede, and those of you who have gone to Creede know she puts on an excellent spread.
Durango/Silverton Train Ride
We have also lined up, for your day off, a trip of a lifetime.
Take a ride back through time behind a historic coal-fired, steam-powered locomotive. Enjoy the sights and sounds of yesteryear on the Durango/ Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad as it winds through 46 miles of the San Juan National Forest to the old mining town of Silverton, Colorado, a National Historic Landmark. You’ll ride in the comfort of first-class cars reserved exclusively for Escapees. Should we not be able to fill the cars with Escapees, then they will be filled with non-Escapees members. This ride is optional and would require a deposit when signing up for this event.
Free optional run:
There is a free, optional full day run (approximately 10-12 hours long) of the Alpine Loop which will include a stop at Animas Forks for lunch. The run will be led by Jane Young. If you are interested in signing up for this tour and you have not already done so, you need to sign up for this run ahead of time by calling 888-757-2582 or 936-327-8873. The number of participants is limited, so sign up early. Details about the Alpine Loop can be found at http://www.blm.gov/co/st/en/fo/gfo/recreation_information/al.html.
Jeep Rentals
Jeep rentals are available through Cottonwood Cove at 719-658-2242 or Lake City Auto & Sports at 970-944-2311. You would need to call them on your own for 2010 pricing.
ATVs
Should you wish to attend with your ATV, there will not be a leader for the ATV runs. You are welcome to bring your ATVs and take runs on your own or join the 4X4 runs.
