Hurricane Katrina Advisory and Status
9/1/2005

Rainbow Plantation: First reports from the park are very reassuring about damage to the park and resident areas: some tree damage, mostly limbs, and a few roof shingle tabs. Structures seem to be in good shape. Residents reported only two inches of rain with the storm and there was no problem with rising water. In comparison to the damage to Biloxi and New Orleans, we are very lucky. Power, water, and sewers are working at the park and the staff is back on site doing cleanup. The park will be ready for our snowbird friends to return.

Interstate 10 is closed from Baton Rouge to the Alabama state line. Alternate routes via Interstate 20 are recommended from the west. I-10 and I-65 are open east and north of Mobile.

Please, do NOT go to areas affected by Hurricane Katrina!

DO donate money to organizations assisting hurricane victims.

Federal officials said Monday that people who want to help should not go to the affected area unless directed by an agency to do so.

Instead, Michael Brown, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, urged people to make cash contributions to organizations.
