Escapees BOF (Birds of a Feather) groups are comprised of people who share a common interest. In order to belong to a BOF, one must be a member in good standing of the Escapees RV Club. NOMADS are nation wide. Although, we are sponsored by the United Methodist Church, United Methodist church affiliation is not required to join. The United Methodist NOMADS have been in existence since 1989, celebrating 20 years of making a difference with the service which has been provided to individuals, churches, church camps, and other ecumenical projects. What started 20 years ago with only 20 people has grown over the years, now with 1100, representing 44 states, and 2 Canadian provinces. The work area which we cover is all over the United States and two projects in Mexico. At present time there are 4 Revolving team projects in the Gulf area, which are helping get people's lives back together after Katrina, Rita, and even as far back as Ivan. In the spring of 2009, we will begin a Revolving project in Cedar Rapids, Iowa helping people who were flooded out of their homes. A revolving team project differs from regular projects in that one can sign up for as few as one week of work, or as many as they wish. Regular projects last only 3 weeks. A R.V. Site is furnished at each project with Electric, water and a dump site.
The highlight of our year is our Reunion. The reunion for 2009 will be held in Columbia, Indiana in September. Pictures of this years reunion are on the NOMADS web site. For more information about NOMADS go to www.nomadsumc.org Also at this site you can download applications to join NOMADS and registration for reunion can be found there the summer of 2009.
This past year NOMADS completed 140 projects with 1120 NOMADS working 80,604 hours. We also had 4 revolving teams on the gulf coast, whose hours were not counted in this.
