Visit nearby Lufkin (http://visitlufkin.com/) to the north, where you can tour the Texas Forestry Museum, do a downtown walking tour, or shop 'til you drop.
For the rafter or canoeing enthusiast, check out the Neches River events and the annual Neches River Rendezvous (http://visitlufkin.com/events/annual/nechesriver/info/) in June (a 10 mile canoe trip).
Conroe (http://www.lakeconroecvb.org/) to the south and Huntsville (http://www.huntsvilletexas.com/) to the west, offer an abundance of shopping and eating opportunities.
Take a short one-hour drive on Saturday night to Liberty, TX, and enjoy a fun-filled evening of live musical entertainment at the Liberty Opry (http://www.libertyopry.com/).
