SKPing SOLOS Yahoo Group Bulletin Board
There's a Yahoo Group created exclusively for communication among members of Escapees SOLOS. This list is unpublished and can be accessed only by moderated subscription, to prevent spammers and to ensure all who join meet the list criteria of being current dues-paid members of the C-BOF.
The purpose of this list is narrowly focused for announcing rallies and other gatherings, sharing experiences, reporting travel plans and any other RV-related matters of interest to members.
To request membership, first establish a Yahoo ID on the Internet. Signing up for a Yahoo account is free and pretty easy - just go to groups.yahoo.com and follow the screen prompts.
PocketMail users may subscribe to the list; however, they must first use a computer to access the Internet (use a friend's computer, go to a library, etc.) to establish a Yahoo ID.
Then send an e-mail message making sure to include Your Name and SKP# to:
skpingsolos-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
If you do not include Your Name and SKP#, you will be asked to supply them and this will delay your joining. If you are not a member of Escapees SOLOS, you will be asked to join.
Otherwise, you will receive a response to confirm that you are subscribed, then you will begin receiving email messages posted to the bulletin board.

PRE-RALLY RONDEVOUX
"Come and get to know everybody before the Escapade rally. We are meeting at Campbell County High School on June 28th. The high school is located at 1000 Camel Drive in Gillette.
If you are NOT going to the Black Hills Rally BUT would like to join the caravan of SOLOS into Escapade, please contact VP/WM Carol Hinkley in advance. This will help her in planning the gathering. Indication of interest is neither a reservation nor a commitment - just a nose count! Thank you.
They have a very large parking lot and we are hoping for a Police escort into the Camplex. Directions are posted on the Yahoo Group “Files”. Plan to arrive, if you can, before social hour 4pm (we always have some updates and announcements to go through).
We will then caravan to the Fairgrounds the next day (the 29th) at about 9am. Our caravan of SOLOS will be in the water/electric sites with an arrival date of the 29th, so be sure to register for those sites.
For those that want to dry camp, you can also group together at the same site and caravan in separately to that area. Check our voicemail at 888-757-7701, ext. 09080. I look forward to seeing you in Gillette."

DEATH VALLEY 49ERS ENCAMPMENT
Death Valley 49ers' Encampment - come early, stay late! Sunset Campground, Death Valley NP, CA
Participate in the annual events of the 49ers and explore all the interesting spots in Death Valley. For detailed weather, events and accommodations information, check these sites:
www.deathvalley49ers.org
and
www.nps.gov/deva/
Potable water, flush toilets and three dumps are available free of additional cost at the Sunset campground. As of May, 2008, regular gasoline was already $5.
This is an informal no-host gathering. Our members will provide morning and afternoon awning shade for 'hugs 'n mugs' and all-day (and later) socializing. Other activities will be led by interested attendees, for the NPS and the 49ers have long lists of 'things to do', and then there's fantastic sightseeing! Plan to share a $20 49ers' membership with another attendee; this provides a discount at the restaurant, free access to the heated resort pool and showers, as well as access to all the music events in the evening. If you arrive early, you'll be treated to nightly western, bluegrass and gospel jamming.
Meals during the week before and during the Encampment are sponsored by local organizations, the local Native Americans and the 49ers. These are good, plenty and not very expensive. Funds raised by these folks and the 49ers go towards scholarships for kids who grow up in and towns near Death Valley. There is also a good, if
crowded, restaurant across the road near where we're parking.
The Sunset campground layout changed last year, and every space is back-in, except perhaps some handicap spaces. There is a visual file in our Files depicting campground lay-out. 'Go to' the Sunset Campground, Furnace Creek, Death Valley NP, CA 92328. We will be gathering at the WEST end of the rows adjacent to the handicap parking/restrooms and the next set of restrooms which USED to be about 4 rows north. (You folks with BIG rigs will find a little breathing room this year!) All spaces first-come, first-served, no saving without paying for space. Half-price with 'NPS geezer pass'.
The Post Office handles General Delivery. Phone coverage is uncertain at this time, given the demise of the analog system which always worked very well out there. No sponsored wifi hotspot last year; generous members sometimes provide access.
If you have difficulty walking any distance, bring your bicycle or other transport.
First-timers to Death Valley are welcome to contact Marty McGrath, mrtymcgrth@yahoo.com or 253-279-9538. If any of you out there would like to share your past visits to Death Valley and encourage folks to try it, please step up to the keyboard out there on the group! And if anyone with the GPS coordinates where we parked last year, please pass them on to me for posting here? Thanks! Y'all come, y'hear?
