Tetons Hangout (SOLD OUT/Waiting List)

July 6, 2021 - July 13, 2021

Tetons Hangout (SOLD OUT/Waiting List) 1

Teton Valley Fairgrounds • Driggs, ID • July 6-13, 2021

This Hangout is currently sold out, but join the waiting list and we’ll let you know if a spot opens up!

The mountains are calling and you must go

Along the Idaho-Wyoming border, the Teton Mountain Range rises above a landscape rich with extraordinary wildlife, pristine lakes, and alpine terrain. During the seven-day Escapees Tetons Hangout, you’ll have numerous opportunities to explore the beautiful scenery and outdoor activities both east and west of the Tetons.

Jackson and Grand Teton National Park

On the Wyoming side of the Teton Range, we will spend parts of several days in and around Grand Teton National Park. We’ll kick off the Hangout with a scenic boat cruise on Jenny Lake, deep in the heart of the park. Our knowledgeable guide will help us learn about the history and geology of the area as well as the flora and fauna around the lake. The photo opportunities on the cruise, with the Cathedral Group of the Tetons reflected in the lake, are second to none. On the other side of the lake, we’ll hike to Inspiration Point and Hidden Falls.

Another day, we’ll ascend on Rendezvous Peak more than 2,700 feet above Jackson Hole aboard the Bridger Gondola. Here, we’ll enjoy happy hour drinks and appetizers at the spectacular Deck@Piste and/or the famous delights from Top of the World Waffles at the Off Piste Market. As an option (see below), you can ride the gondola earlier in the afternoon to the trailhead for the Casper Ridge Loop hike, which offers unbeatable views of the Sleeping Indian, Jackson Peak, and the Grand Teton itself, along with Granite Creek some 3,000 feet below you. The Hangout will also feature other hikes and scenic drives in Jackson and the National Park.

Idaho's Teton Valley

There’s just as much fun to be had on the Idaho side of the Teton Range! Here, near our Hangout base camp in Driggs, we’ll enjoy a relaxed flat-water float on the Teton River (kayaks and tubes available for rent if you don’t have your own). Bring your rod and tackle if you’re a fly fisherman!

We’ll also enjoy the Teton Valley Foundation’s Music On Main outdoor concert in Victor, tour the Grand Teton Distillery in Driggs (with tastings, of course!), embrace our inner cowboys and cowgirls at the Teton Valley Rodeo, hike a trail on the western flank of the Tetons, and bike the 15-mile round trip Driggs to Victor Rail Trail to feast on the famous burgers at the Brakeman Grill followed by the legendary huckleberry milkshakes at the Victor Emporium.

And finally, we will cap off the last night of our week together with a tailgate party and private screening of Top Gun: Maverick starring Tom Cruise under the stars at the Spud Drive-In.

Optional activities

Bridger Gondola to Casper Ridge Trailhead ($35/person)

If you want to hike the Casper Ridge Loop near the top of Rendezvous Peak with the group (or have time to explore other hikes on the mountain on your own before our happy hour), you’ll need a ticket for the Bridger Gondola. Buy your ticket when you register for the Hangout to take advantage of our discounted group price. The Gondola is free after 5:00 pm, so if you only want to join us for happy hour on the Deck@Piste, you can ride up without a ticket after that time.

Tetons Hangout (SOLD OUT/Waiting List) 2

Snake River Whitewater Rafting Adventure ($92/person)

If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, this professionally-guided 8-mile-long rafting trip in the Grand Canyon of the Snake River is perfect for you! You will be in a 10-12 person raft on a Class III portion of the river (Class I is flat water; Class V is the most difficult), including the famous Ropes, Lunch Counter and Big Kahuna rapids! This trip is approximately 3 1/2 to 4 hours long and includes round trip transportation from Jackson, your guide, all equipment, and wetsuits. You will get wet! This excursion will run at the same time as the Scenic Float, below, so each person can choose only one of these two activities.

Teton Views Scenic Float with Lunch ($85/person)

If you prefer something a bit tamer, try this late morning, flat-water lunch float along a 7 mile stretch of the Snake River. You’ll enjoy panoramic views of the Teton Range, Gros Ventre Range, and Snake River Range, while your boatman does all the work so you can relax and take it all in! Beginning west of Jackson, your 12-person raft will float downstream to a private riverside meal site for a gourmet picnic lunch (picnic tables and a restroom provided) before continuing on the river after lunch. This trip is approximately 3 to 3 1/2 hours long and includes round trip transportation from Jackson, your professional guide and all equipment. This excursion will run at the same time as the Whitewater Rafting Adventure, above, so each person can choose only one of these two activities.

Because summer raft trips on the Snake River are in extremely high demand, you must purchase tickets for them in advance  at the time you register for the Hangout

Hangout location

Tetons Hangout (SOLD OUT/Waiting List) 3Our base camp for the Tetons Hangout will be the Teton County Fairgrounds in Driggs, Idaho. Because there are no RV hookups at the fairgrounds, this Hangout will offer DRY-CAMPING ONLY. Potable water is available at the fairgrounds, and we will provide a mid-week wastewater pump-out for each rig. Generator usage will be allowed except during nighttime hours. We’ll also have an enclosed building with restrooms for our activities in camp.

Due to other events taking place at the Fairgrounds before and after the Hangout, no early arrivals or late departures will be allowed.

Is this event right for me?

Tetons Hangout (SOLD OUT/Waiting List) 4Everyone is welcome at all Escapees RV Club events. With that said, the Tetons Hangout is best suited for members who:

  • enjoy moderately strenuous outdoor activities like hiking, bicycling, and kayaking
  • are available to participate in activities at any time, including during weekdays
  • are comfortable dry-camping for a week at a time (with either solar power capability or a generator)

For events designed specifically for working-age RVers, with most activities in the evenings and on weekends, try an Xscapers Convergence. Or for more of an all-inclusive, guided-tour experience, you may prefer one of our Head-Out Programs (HOPs).

COVID-19 precautions

The COVID-19 health and safety precautions that will be in effect during the Hangout will depend on the state of the pandemic, local and state health regulations, and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and other medical professionals at the time. These precautions may include measures such as requiring wearing of masks in certain situations, requiring social distancing, avoiding indoor group activities, limiting carpooling, and/or limiting activities that include sharing of food. In addition to the above, you may be required to agree in writing that you will help provide a safe environment for everyone by complying with our health and safety rules, and to release Escapees from liability should you become ill during or after the event. We also strongly recommend that you be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least two weeks before attending this event.
